An absorbing story about an outlaw motorcycle club, 1% shifts its focus away from the machinations of crime and gangland conflict, and towards a struggle between two rivals vying for power. Instead of depicting an overt confrontation, however, Stephen McCallum's film centres on a clash of ideology – offering a critique of hyper-masculinity along with it, writes Kit MacFarlane.
