Settlers in a Far Far Land paints a portrait of Muslim Life in Australia. Living in Australia can present extra challenges for Muslims because our secular society is not geared towards Islam with its pattern of prayers and religious observances. However, many Muslims who have settled here show great commitment to maintaining their religion and traditions and to passing these on to the next generation. Several schools have been set up to educate children in an environment where Islamic values are promoted and the Arabic language is taught. This program provides an insight into the Islamic community in Australia and our trade links with the Middle East (particularly in sheep, oil and meat) with the hope of fostering greater understanding and appreciation of the Islamic culture.
