Professor Donald Horne was one of Australia’s foremost academics, historians and philosophers. He was the author of The Lucky Country, an evaluation of Australian society published in 1964 that questioned many traditional attitudes. A staunch republican, he was the editor of The Bulletin in the early 60s and was made a professor in political science at the University of New South Wales.
