(Re)Sounding Celluloid: Navigating a Cinesonic Place in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' (Metro Special Feature: Sound)

'Through a detailed sound analysis of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' (Peter Jackson, 2001), this paper seeks a sonic understanding of cinematic place. Drawing upon the concept of 'architecsonics' devised by leading sound scholar Philip Brophy, this discussion closely examines the detailed construction of sound in film via acoustic, aural, electronic, harmonic and musical materials and effects which articulate the cinematic text. In particular, this study seeks to examine how sonic architecture creates a cinesonic place.'
