Lost in Darkness and Confusion: 'Lost Highway', Lacan, and film noir

David Lynch uses the thematic and stylistic conventions of film noir to critique male dominance over women and the traditional image of assertive women as dangerous femmes fatales who threaten society. In Lost Highway, it is in fact misogynist men who, in their attempts to possess women, threaten civilisation.
